ACA Dutchess and Orange county route revision
OVERVIEW

HIGHLIGHTS

Dutchess county

the new route will use the Walkway Over The Hudson as the Hudson River crossing between the City of Poughkeepsie (Dutchess county) and the village of Highland (Ulster county)

the new route will now use an 8 mile portion of the Harlem Valley RT between Amenia and Milerton

the new route will favor "yuppie" B&B type touring cyclists - all camping in Dutchess county will be off route - the new route will no longer go past Mills - Norrie SP on US rt. 9 in Staatsburg

the new route will eliminate the long ride along US rt. 9 from Staatsburg however,the section of US rt. 9 from the village of Hyde Park to Marist College,is still being used

the new route crosses SR 9G in the town of Hyde Park giving an optional route to the above FYI: SR 9G becomes Parker Ave. in the City of Poughkeepsie - the east end entrance of the WOTH state park is on Parker Ave. (SR 9G)

the new route goes across the very scenic central part of Dutchess County

Ulster county

after crossing the Hudson river via the Walkway Over The Hudson state park the new route will use the expanded Hudson Valley Rail Trail and then a revised route from New Paltz into farm country of NW Orange county

Orange county

the new route through Orange county avoids the economicaly depressed center city of Middletown NY
